Lance Brown
Artist

LANCE BROWN holds a Bachelors of Fine Arts from the University of Denver with additional years of study at the San Francisco Art Institute and the Portland School of Fine and Applied Art in Portland, Maine. However, he has spent the last 30 years making his living as a professional actor, musician and songwriter.

Throughout his career Lance has continued to paint and draw whether during international travel with his wife, drawing as meditation in the tradition of Frederick Franck “The Zen of Seeing” or painting the larger canvases he creates today. This ongoing discipline has produced a wealth of paintings and drawings.

Last year he launched his second 30-year career by entering the Around the Coyote Fall Festival in Chicago. He won special honors for his “Purple Suited Blues Man” at the "Later Impressions” Show organized through Chicago Cultural Center. Lance’s affinity with musicians comes to life in the paintings and drawings of his “Blues Series” which will be showing at the Old Town School of Folk Music on Lincoln Avenue in Chicago during June and July of 2008.

Lance Brown is truly a “performing artist”.  Painting on stage to live music has become one of the most powerful aspects of his work. It has produced paintings that are bold in their design and fearless in their execution. As a blues and jazz musician himself, Lance was flattered to be asked to “PAINT TO THE BLUES” with Eddie Clearwater and his Band at Bill’s Blues on January 18, 2008. These paintings and others from live performances make up a large part of Lance’s current work.
